LEIGH GRIFFITHS looks like he could play some part in Celtic’s first friendly next week against FC Pinkafeld after coming through three days of intense training.

John Kennedy told CelticTV the player has not missed a minute of the pre-season training so far with the striker coming along well after so long out of action.

Leigh has not been in the squad since December when Brendan Rodgers revealed he would be out for a period of time to sort his personal life out and get his head back to a place where he could play football.

When Neil Lennon came back, there was hope we could have seen Leigh before the end of the season, but it never happened. The new Celtic boss has been readying the frontman for his return this pre-season and if he can get up to speed in bhoys mini-tour of Austria and Switzerland, then he could be a starter for Celtic against Sarajevo.

“Leigh has trained the last three days.” Kennedy said.

“We did a medical screen and a football session on Monday, a double session yesterday and a single session this morning.

“He’s trained every minute of every session so that’s a very positive start for Leigh.

“He’s had a tough time in the last six months or so, so this is an important time.

“He has worked hard. In the latter part of last season he was doing a lot of individual work, to get back that base that he had lost.

“Now it’s all about minutes on the pitch and being on the grass. Again, he has started very positively.

“There won’t be a timescale. We’ll manage it as we progress.”
