Leigh Griffiths Should Start Final Even if Dembele Makes it

LEIGH GRIFFITHS has cut a frustrated figure at Celtic Park sometimes over the season. When you score 40 goals the previous season you’d expect to be untouchable up top. However, the arrival of Moussa Dembele has seen the striker bide his time and more importantly play his part when the manger needed him to.

With Moussa pulling up early on in the Scottish cup semi final, Leigh has came back in and performed well as always; his thunderous strike at Ibrox being a particular highlight.

With the news that Dembele has been in light training with a view to coming back to full training this weekend ahead of the final it has certainly got debate going.

For me, it’s simple, no matter the fitness levels of Moussa come next Saturday at Hampden we MUST go with Griffiths. He’s been playing since the semi and will be more sharp than a returning Dembele. Furthermore, Leigh deserves his cup final moment – a lot has been made of his past failures in the competition and it’s only right he gets a fair crack of the whip.

It will be a just reward for being patient, improving and helping out the team whenever Moussa wasn’t available.

Not going to lie and say I’d hold the same view had both strikers been fit the last three months coming into this as Dembele has been outstanding this season. I do hope the Frenchman makes the bench for the cup final, and he can hopefully have his own moment in the last 20-30 minutes, depending on who the game pans out.

For now Leigh should be the man that holds the weight of expectation on his shoulders, I think he’ll thrive under that pressure.
