LEIGH GRIFFITHS has recalled one of the best games he’s ever played in speaking on the anniversary of another 5-1 derby thumping.
Leigh was part of the side who went to Ibrox and absolutely routed their Glasgow rivals. A comprehensive performance from start to finish saw the bhoys humiliate The Rangers on their own patch.
Leigh got on the score sheet that day and remembers how easy it was to beat them on the day. Speaking to Celtic TV, there almost seems like a twinge of regret they never won by more : “Before the second 5-1 game (that season), we’d played them twice in six days, and we’d beaten them in the semi-final at Hampden.
“At Ibrox, I think the 5-1 scoreline was flattering for them, because the amount of chances we missed in the first half was ridiculous.
“It could have been five at half-time. But to go to your rivals in their own back yard and beat them 5-1, as easily as we did, I think that was a day for the fans that they’ll never forget.
“For me as well, going there and winning 5-1 so easily, it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played in.”
There’s an iconic picture of Leigh Griffiths standing at the corner flag at Ibrox, resting his arm at the top – as if to say, ‘aye, this is too easy’.
Celtic have enjoyed incredible success against their Glasgow rivals over the past four years.
Large score lines and iconic moments.
We’ll look forward to more moments being made in the future.
