Leigh Griffiths Convinced Celtic Youngster on Move Away

Celtic let one of their top young stars go out on loan this week when Jonathan Afolabi swapped Glasgow for Dundee.

The Irishman is yet to make a senior appearance for the club and with so much competition for places, it was best Jonathan went out on loan and really tried to make an impact away from the limelight.

In the Championship he will hopefully get the chance to spearhead the Dundee attack and help them push for promotion to the SPFL.

The Centre-forward came to Celtic from Southampton where he was highly regarded, there would have no doubt been interest in his services from the lower leagues in England but the player admits himself it was another Celtic striker who sold him on a move to Dundee.

“I got a chance to talk with Leigh Griffiths as we ended up training together and he said Dundee was a brilliant club to go to, to really kick on with my career.

“So it is only positive when it is someone like Leigh saying things like that.

“I hope to get as many goals as possible to help the team and myself. Hopefully I can reap the rewards when I go back to Celtic next season.

“Being able to watch them train is great. Edouard is only a couple of years older than me so it is good to see the quality he has along with the other strikers.

“It is always something to be able to work towards for the long term – it is good for my aspirations.”

Celtic have been keen to get their youngsters loaned out to make sure they can still develop. With no developmental football at the moment, sitting around doing nothing will hinder rather than help.

Hopefully, the striker will come back with experience and with a point to prove next summer.
