Leicester Open Door for Benkovic Celtic Move

BRENDAN RODGERS has added fuel to the fire Filip Benkovic could make a return to Celtic this month.

Rodgers was the man who brought Filip to Celtic the first time around before he headed to Leicester. Rodgers has never used Filip and has sent him out on loan to Bristol City and Cardiff. The deal with the Welsh side was supposed to last the whole season but he never got a chance to get going with Cardiff and his loan was terminated this month.

Celtic are in the market for a centre-back and Leicester are looking for a place for Filip to go out and get game time. It seems like a no brainer, here’s what Brendan Rodgers told Glasgow Live about the potential of a second Celtic loan stint for the Croatian.

“It’s certainly a possibility. It’s a huge club and he did very well there. We haven’t had any contact but he’s back now and we will see what happens.” Rodgers told Glasgow Live.

“Celtic would be a great move for him. He’s at the age where he really needs to be playing and that didn’t quite materialise at Cardiff.

“I would never blame another manager for not playing someone because circumstances can change all the time but unfortunately it didn’t work out.

“It’s quite simple really, it’s now a case of finding somewhere where he can go next and get some game time.”

The only thing we can take from this right now is Celtic have yet to show interest in the centre-back. This could go on until later in the window. Neil Lennon worked with Filip for the few months both were there but was reluctant to use the defender and opted to use centre-backs who were at the club on a permanent basis.
