Maik Nawrocki was handed his Celtic debut on Saturday against Ross County. The central defender slotted seamlessly into the heart of the champions’ defence alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers.
The Polish international was comfortable on the ball and confidently strode out from the back on a number of occasions. It is fair to say the 22-year-old impressed in his competitive Parkhead bow although his old club is already missing him.

Legia Warszawa won 3-0 against Ruch Chorzow on Sunday, but manager Kosta Runjaic admitted after the match how his side noticed the absence of Nawrocki. He said (Daily Record): “We miss Maik Nawrocki. I watched his debut game for Celtic – it was an easy game for him. He is a centre-back who is very good at passing the ball. But his sale is part of the football business. We have to move on now, and it’s time for the other defenders to step up.”
It would’ve been disappointing for Legia to lose Nawrocki, but like Runjaic said, it is time to move on. He did praise the Pole for his weekend display, and going forward, Hoops’ fans will be hoping there are many more adequate performances to come.
Particularly with his role in the team set to get bigger amid Starfelt’s likely departure to Celta Vigo, Nawrocki will need to be at the top of his game.
