Celtic are preparing to welcome Lazio to Parkhead next Wednesday evening. It is the second matchday of the Champions League group stage, and the Hoops will be eager to get off the mark in Group E.
The Italians will provide a stern test, but one of their key men has been severely injured ahead of the match. Maurizio Sarri’s men defeated Torino by two goals to nil on Wednesday evening. During the game, centre-half Alessio Romagnoli suffered a clash of heads but he played on for the full 90.
He underwent checks post-match, however, and it has now been confirmed that he fractured his nose. The Italian internationalist will definitely miss Saturday’s trip to face AC Milan, and one imagines the showdown next Wednesday.
This news comes as a significant boost for Celtic. Romagnoli has played 90 minutes in all of Lazio’s competitive matches so far this campaign and is the heartbeat of their defence.
He will likely not be in action next Wednesday, and the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda will be keen to take full advantage of his absence.
