Latest UEFA Statement – Special Cases Clause to Clear Path for Celtic and SPFL

UEFA have delivered their strong recommendation to finish the season where possible but have officially made it clear they will look at special cases where this can’t be done.

This comes as a threat of calling a season early could impact on euro places for the leagues which have done this.

The SPFL have voted to carry on and are constantly monitoring the situation — however — if there’s no chance of the league being finished by the end of August then the SPFL would become one of those special cases.

The guidelines for the special cases are still to be announced.

UEFA statement today only gives us a vague idea of what’s going on and we’ll know much more on Thursday when they take part in a meeting with all 55 associations present by video conference, outlining UEFA’s wishes.

Celtic have remained silent throughout this process — noting only it would be their strong preference to finish the league season.
