Kyogo Furuhashi’s short-lived spell at Stade Rennais could be coming to an end, with reports suggesting the French side are already preparing for life without him.

Struggles in France
Since making the switch from Glasgow to France, Kyogo has struggled to establish himself in the Rennes squad. Game time has been limited, with only one start—against RC Strasbourg in early February—and brief substitute appearances since. Injuries have also played a role in his slow start, but beyond fitness concerns, his style of play does not reportedly fit into new manager Habib Beye’s plans.
Beye recently spoke about Kyogo’s qualities, acknowledging his movement and link-up play but hinting that he needs a different system to thrive. Despite the manager’s attempts to integrate him, it now appears that Rennes will look elsewhere for firepower this summer.
Rennes Eyeing Attacking Reinforcements
With Kyogo failing to make an impact, Rennes are already reportedly identifying potential replacements, and two names have emerged as key targets. (Jeunes Footeux)
One of them is Florian Thauvin, a World Cup-winning French international currently playing for Udinese in Italy. His contract expires this summer, and he is reportedly considering a return to France. Rennes see him as an experienced option to bolster their attack.
The second target is Franjo Ivanovic, a highly-rated 21-year-old Croatian striker playing for Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. Ivanovic has been in outstanding form this season, netting 16 goals and providing seven assists across all competitions. His performances have also caught the eye of clubs in Germany and England, with Brighton said to be monitoring his situation. Rennes would need to pay at least £13 million to sign him.

What’s Next for Kyogo?
If Rennes move forward with plans to sign a new striker, Kyogo could be on the move again after just a few months in France. While his time at Celtic was filled with success and silverware, his struggles at Rennes raise questions about his next move. Whether he fights for his place or looks for another fresh start elsewhere remains to be seen.
