Kyogo Furuhashi’s move to Rennes is yet to catch fire, with the former Celtic striker still looking for his first goal in France. Signed for £10 million in January, the Japanese forward has made just four appearances and is already out of favour under a new manager installed shortly after his arrival.
The striker, who left Celtic mid-season, has found himself benched more often than not, leading to criticism from some corners for making the switch when he was still a key figure at Parkhead. Despite the slow start to life in Ligue 1, Kyogo remains optimistic about turning things around.
Former Celtic striker Andy Walker believes a return to Glasgow’s east end shouldn’t be ruled out. Drawing comparisons with recent returnees, Walker pointed to Jota, who came back to Celtic this season after a stint in Saudi Arabia and a short spell in France.
“I think there’s always a chance,” Walker told Go Radio’s Football Show. “I mean, Celtic have brought Kieran Tierney back, they’ve brought Jota back, they have made a big profit on Jota, for example.

“Kieran Tierney will be welcomed with open arms, given his history at Celtic, given the quality that he still has. And the only thing you ask of Kieran Tierney is you hope he gets that bit of luck and he remains injury-free.”
Kyogo’s return would certainly be welcomed by fans, especially with Celtic currently relying on Adam Idah and Daizen Maeda up front. Goals are spread throughout the side, but when Kyogo was firing at Celtic, he was the main man. The fans loved him and he contributed to a very successful spell at the club.
Whether a reunion becomes realistic may depend on Rennes’ stance come summer, and Kyogo’s ability to force his way back into the team over the remainder of the season. Even though we have witnessed the return of Jota and we’re now awaiting the arrival of Kieran Tierney this summer, a deal for kyogo seems less likely, but never say never.
