Kwon Hyeok-kyu’s time at Celtic looks set to end without a single competitive appearance, with the South Korean midfielder reportedly finalising a permanent switch to French side FC Nantes.

According to Ouest France, the deal is at an advanced stage, with Kwon currently undergoing a medical ahead of signing a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 outfit. It marks a surprising twist for the 23-year-old, who just weeks ago appeared to be heading to Austria Vienna before the move collapsed.
Kwon, tipped as the Korean Rodri, arrived in Glasgow last summer with big ambitions. Upon signing, he declared: “I will become the best player in Celtic and go to higher places such as the German Bundesliga or the English Premier League.” While he hasn’t made the breakthrough at Parkhead, a move to France’s top tier will be seen by many as a clear step up from the Scottish leagues.
Nantes finished 13th in Ligue 1 last season, just five points behind Rennes — the same club that lured Kyogo Furuhashi away from Celtic in January. The French league continues to attract talent from across Europe and Asia.
Celtic will be looking to reshape their midfield options in the remaining weeks of the window, with Kwon’s departure likely to free up wages and a squad slot. For the player himself, it’s a second chance to realise his ambitions, this time in the colours of Les Canaris.
