Neil Lennon has refuted any claims that the club has fielded any interest in Kristoffer Ajer as of yet. The speculation has been rife, and as we reported this morning, a CNN reporter has stated reports in Italy claim Milan have made a move.
However, the Celtic boss has no reason to lie about this particular interest and made it very clear there have been no bids for his defender at the moment.
“There’s absolutely nothing in that at all. Nothing. He’s got a couple of years left on his contract and I want him here and the club wants him here.” Lennon told SunSport.
Ajer has been a first team player for around 18-months. The Norwegian had to build himself up to the position he’s in but before the player dropped his last agent, there were murmurings he wanted out.
With two years left on his deal, Celtic know this will be the summer the club can get the most transfer value from Kris if he has no intention of signing a new deal.
If there’s sufficient interest in the coming weeks and months, it could prove tempting for the Celtic board.
It doesn’t help that the window doesn’t close until October. With the Premier League still on going, the knock on transfer effect from their clubs doing business will have a big say in Celtic’s summer.
