Kris Boyd’s ongoing bitterness with Celtic has taken another turn following the SFA’s Key Match Incident report, which upheld the decision to award a penalty to Celtic winger Hyunjun Yang during their 4-0 win over Motherwell.

The SFA panel concluded that the referee’s call to award the penalty for a collision between Yang and Motherwell goalkeeper Oxborough was correct, silencing claims of controversy.
However, Boyd, never one to miss an opportunity to take a swipe at Celtic, shared a sarcastic take on the incident during Go Ballistic.
Speaking on the podcast, Boyd said:
“Yeah, well, you know, it was a penalty to Celtic as well. There will be many people moaning about that. I just hope Yang’s okay.
“Looked a real sore one. Looked a real sore one. I hope he’s okay.”
The thinly veiled sarcasm, aimed at undermining the validity of the decision, comes despite the SFA’s official ruling confirming the penalty as legitimate.
In their KMI report, the SFA stood firm, supporting referee Ross Hardie’s original call on the pitch. The panel determined that Oxborough’s challenge on Yang was reckless and warranted a penalty, dismissing claims that the decision was soft or undeserved.
The penalty, calmly converted by Arne Engels, broke the deadlock in a match Celtic went on to dominate.
Boyd’s criticism fits a familiar pattern of targeting Celtic, often highlighting perceived injustices even when evidence suggests otherwise.
Cheer up, Kris. Maybe focus on the 12-point gap instead of penalties that were correctly awarded!
