Kris Boyd’s Live Sky Sports Meltdown After Rangers Defeat

Kris Boyd didn’t hold back as he unleashed a scathing attack on Rangers following their 1-0 defeat to Aberdeen, pushing them nine points adrift of Celtic in the title race. The former Rangers striker couldn’t hide his frustration, focusing his ire on manager Philippe Clement, who tried to spin the latest result as one of their “best performances” of the season. Celtic fans, meanwhile, are revelling in the fallout as Boyd’s exasperation reflects the growing crisis at Ibrox.

It was another lacklustre showing from Rangers, who mustered only three shots on target compared to Aberdeen’s six, with Jamie McGrath missing a penalty that could have further embarrassed the Ibrox side. But in a baffling post-match interview, Clement described the match as one of the season’s highlights for Rangers—a claim Boyd found ridiculous.

On Sky Sports, Boyd tore into his former club, calling out Clement’s baffling optimism and accusing the Belgian boss of failing to instil a dominant style of play. “Rangers don’t dominate games,” Boyd fumed. “To be one of the top teams, you have to wear down the opposition. That’s not happening here. There’s no style to anything they do.”

Boyd didn’t stop at the players and the manager, though, directing his criticism at Rangers’ entire structure and, notably, the club’s recruitment. “There are problems all over that need fixing. Aberdeen, by far, deserved that win—they’ve got better recruitment, a better manager, and they’re a better team than Rangers right now. Top to bottom, Rangers are leaderless.”

Boyd then turned to the Ibrox faithful, suggesting the dwindling crowds are a clear sign that Rangers fans have had enough. “The crowds are down, and if that continues, it’s a loss of income for the club. The fans are everything, and if they’re bored and fed up with this so-called style of play—or the lack of it—then that’s it.”

Not content to leave it at that, Boyd added Rangers’ director of football Nils Koppen to his list of those responsible, criticising him for failing to support the club with quality signings. “This is on both of them,” Boyd insisted, pointing to Clement and Koppen’s “diabolical” recruitment as a key factor in the club’s struggles.

“It’s easy to say things will get better in interviews, but there’s nothing to suggest it will. Eight of the 11 players were already at the club before he arrived. That’s not progression.” For Celtic fans, watching Boyd’s frustrations spill over has only added to the satisfaction of seeing Rangers’ woes deepen.
