Kris Boyd’s Laughable Greg Taylor Transfer Idea

Former Rangers striker and Ibrox Cheerleader Kris Boyd has sparked debate with his latest comments, suggesting that Rangers should make a move for Greg Taylor when his Celtic contract expires in the summer.

While Taylor has yet to sign a new contract at Celtic, whether Barry Ferguson’s side could even afford the Celtic left-back’s wages is unclear. Taylor has been nothing but loyal to the Hoops and, at 27, is looking for a move to see out the prime years of his career, not trailing the team he is set to leave across all domestic competitions.

When asked ‘If you’re Rangers, would you offer Greg Taylor a contract?’ Boyd said: (Go Ballistic), “It wouldn’t be the worst one for me for my club to have a little conversation with him. Could he switch sides in Glasgow?

“I know the rivalry between the two clubs but he’s Scottish and he ticks the boxes. You could ask the question.

“Greg has shown for a period of time now how consistent he has been. If he’s not going to be at Celtic, he wants to play regularly.”

Boyd’s comments have, unsurprisingly, raised eyebrows among Celtic fans. Taylor has been a key part of the starting XI since arriving from Kilmarnock in the summer of 2019, playing an important role in multiple title wins under both Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers. While there has been speculation about his future, with his contract running down, the idea of him crossing the city to Ibrox seems highly unlikely.

Players moving directly between Celtic and Rangers is almost unheard of. The last first-team example was Kenny Miller, who played for both clubs in separate spells. Even if Taylor were to leave Celtic in the summer, there would be no shortage of interest from clubs in England or abroad, making the idea of him turning up at Ibrox seem far-fetched considering the wage increase he would demand, having been able to leave on a free transfer if he doesn’t sign a new contract.

Boyd, of course, has never been shy in making comments to rile up Celtic fans, and this latest example seems no different. While Taylor’s future remains uncertain, a move to Rangers would be a shock to say the least. Celtic supporters will be far more concerned with whether or not Taylor signs a new deal rather than entertaining Kris Boyd’s fantasy transfer scenario.
