Celtic currently sit nine points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership with Ange Postecoglou’s men looking like odds-on favourites for the title.
The loud mouthed Kris Boyd, though, has recently came out and said that the destination of the Scottish title this season may be much different if Kyogo played for The Rangers rather than Celtic.
In 2022/23 across all competitions, the Japanese striker has scored 26 goals including three against Boyd’s team.
Kyogo has been a key contributor to a Celtic side who have lost just one domestic game all season and Boyd thinks his presence in the Rangers team would help bridge the gap between the Glasgow sides when speaking to Sky Sports (The Scottish Sun):
“I think it would be very difficult to put an argument up against it because of the impact he’s had, the goals he’s scored.
“But not only that, teams retreat that 10 or 15 yards because of his pace and movement, and that then allows for the players in behind him.”
This is a heavily idealistic claim from Boyd as it is fair to say one player does not define a team no matter if they are of Kyogo’s ilk or not. Nevertheless, Boyd also said:

“The difference for me is the goals Kyogo has been able to score but also the workrate, going to close down, getting after people, starting the tempo for the press as well.”
For Boyd to say the only difference between Celtic and The Rangers this season is Kyogo himself is greatly immature and unfounded. He is not taking into account the contributions from the Celtic team as a whole and how they play much better football than The Rangers in general which helps them, in turn, win more games.
Despite this, the former Scotland international did still praise Celtic’s Japanese forward:
“His movement’s second to none, he terrifies defenders. They don’t want to get too close because if he spins, he’ll get away from them. He’s a clever, clever footballer.”
At least in his praise for Kyogo, Boyd is accurate. The Japanese is undeniably the best striker in Scotland. However, we only have to go back to the first derby of the season when the Japanese striker went off injured in the first few minutes and the bhoys still blew Boyd’s favourite club away 4-0.
