Kris Boyd Predicts Celtic Excuse-Making If Transfer Window Fails

Kris Boyd has delivered a warning to Celtic, claiming the club are “playing with fire” by dragging their heels in the transfer market.

The former Rangers striker believes the champions’ lack of urgency could come back to haunt them, despite Brendan Rodgers’ side making a strong start to the season.

It’s two wins in the league and another one in the League Cup against Falkirk on Friday night, but the need for signings is clear. There are just three first-team wingers available to cover both flanks, with Jota out until the new year.

Celtic need some players in, everyone knows that, but Boyd has predicted that if Celtic don’t make some good moves in the market, they’ll flip it into a narrative which will just anger the fans.

Speaking to SunSport, Boyd said: “Celtic have to bring in players, they have to bring them in and if I’ve got a comfortable enough lead you would expect them just to say right okay, we’ve got Champions League football, let’s go and get players in now to take us forward.

“But you know you listen to a lot of Celtic fans and it seems to be back to what it was ages ago. You’re playing with fire even when you look at it because it can quite easily go the other way. Then all of a sudden you’re saying, well, why did you not go and bring players in? And then you bring in one or two just to appease everybody.

“You can get the feeling that Celtic, because of the interest from Carter-Vickers, in Maeda and Hatate, they might turn around and spin it in a narrative of being able to keep a hold of them. I mean, that’s a thing Celtic would do.”

Rodgers has made seven additions so far this summer, but with key areas like the wings still short of depth, pressure is mounting for more firepower before the window closes.

Brendan Rodgers is due to face the press on Tuesday, and fans will be keenly listening for any update on incomings. There doesn’t seem to be anything in the pipeline, and the squad for the Champions League won’t change until after the Almaty tie, now.
