Few would have expected Mikey Johnston to have the impact he did on the Celtic’s Boxing Day clash with Dundee. With just over ten minutes to go, the winger came on and bagged a brace.
His first saw him fire into the bottom right corner from range before he placed the ball into the same corner for his second just into stoppage time.
After the game, his fellow winger, and the man he replaced, Luis Palma, reacted to his duo of strikes. On Instagram, the Honduran internationalist posted a story of him and Johnston with ‘killer’ as the caption:

These bhoys will be in direct competition for a place in the lineup for this Saturday’s Glasgow derby. Both Johnston and Palma are natural left-wingers and want the same spot in the team.
Palma is the more established option, but it is hard to ignore Johnston following his brace this afternoon.
The 24-year-old got a run in the team when Daizen Maeda was injured and he didn’t take it. Then, he was playing on the right, though. Today, he came on and scored twice when playing off the left.
After all, that is his natural and preferred position. It seems to be where Rodgers gets the most out of him, but the Irishman will have a headache over the next few days about who to select.
