Brendan Rodgers has revealed Kieran Tierney battled through illness during Celtic’s 2-0 victory over Aberdeen at Pittodrie this afternoon.
The left-back, making his second league appearance since returning to the club, played until the 67th minute before being replaced by Auston Trusty. His contribution included a key assist for Benjamin Nygren’s opening goal in the first half.

Tierney was visibly involved throughout, linking well down the left and causing problems for the Dons before his withdrawal. Rodgers confirmed after the match that the Scotland international had been feeling unwell from the interval but insisted on continuing.
Despite the setback, Tierney delivered a strong hour’s performance, underlining his quality and importance to the side even when not fully fit.
He said: (BBC Sportsound), “Yeah, well, to be fair, he was actually sick at half-time, but he wanted to give it a go.
“I think it drained him a little, and then a bit of cramp set in.
“But he’s given us a really good hour in the game, created the first goal, and we know it’s just about building his football fitness up.
“Then you can really see the qualities he gives the team.”
Rodgers’ comments will reassure supporters that Tierney’s withdrawal was precautionary rather than injury-related, with the focus now on building his sharpness over the coming weeks.
The 28-year-old’s link-up play with Nygren down the left was a highlight of the first half, the pair combining for the opener in what proved a decisive moment.

Tierney’s determination to play on despite feeling ill will only strengthen his standing among the Celtic support, who have long admired his commitment in the Hoops.
With competitive minutes now under his belt, Rodgers will be keen to manage the defender carefully to ensure he reaches peak condition ahead of a busy fixture schedule.
