Kenny Dalglish Recalls Celtic Breakthrough

Celtic legend Kenny Dalglish believes that the club gave him the best grounding to go on and become the player he went on to be.

As reported by the Daily Record, speaking to Off the Ball Dalglish, spoke very highly about his beginnings at the club, who were European Champions around the time he came through.

“You could not have picked a better club to go to than Celtic because of the success they had, European champions in 1967 and we were going up to training just after that.”

“We were not in the dressing room, we were next door. We were in the reserve dressing room as usual.

“To a man, the Lisbon Lions were brilliant. They were really humble.

“When you played in the games or played in small-sided games, all they did was encourage you. They were fantastic, to be honest. They were closer to the younger players then and I think that helped as well.

“You were respectful, you could annoy them but they gave you respect too in a strange way.”

Coming up through the Celtic academy at that time would have been a tough task with it being one of the greatest periods in the club’s history.

However, Kenny obviously went on to do that alongside the likes of Danny McGrain.

As everyone knows, he arguably went on to become one of the best players in the world at that time, winning multiple European Cups.

It’s great to see that Kenny speaks so highly about his spell at the club as with the success he had. He will forever be remembered as not only a Celtic great but a Scottish football great.
