Kennedy Highlights Livingston’s “Time-Wasting” Despite Win

John Kennedy spoke out against Livingston’s time-wasting post-match after Celtic’s 3-0 win.

Despite winning comfortably in the end, after a poor first half display, David Martindale’s side’s use of tactics, such as wasting time, clearly annoyed Kennedy.

Kennedy said: [Daily Record], “At the end of the day it’s about entertainment and pleasing the fans. Sometimes when it’s not happening it’s frustrating especially with the way we like to play – we like to keep the tempo high but we just focus on the game and don’t worry about things that we can’t control.”

Livingston’s use of time-wasting was no isolated incident, though Celtic come up against a number of sides domestically who look to run the clock down, with goalkeepers in particular at times taking as long as possible before taking goal kicks.

Celtic will have to deal with such tactics for the remainder of the season, with it clear that opposition sides domestically see forming a low block in defence as the most effective in attempting to negate Celtic’s attacking threat.

Celtic do look to play attacking, free-flowing football, but with pitches like the artificial one played on today, it makes Brendan Rodgers’ job in coaching his players just that little bit harder than it would have been if played on grass.
