Celtic have made a dramatic late move to try and sign Sevilla striker Kelechi Iheanacho ahead of the 11pm transfer deadline.
The Nigerian international, who worked under Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City, has emerged as a serious target in the final hours of the window following Adam Idah’s £6million switch to Swansea City. With deals for Kasper Dolberg and David Datro Fofana falling through, Celtic are now scrambling to bring in firepower to boost their frontline.
Iheanacho, 28, could make the very late move with Sevilla willing to let the striker leave. He has one year remaining on his contract and is not considered a key part of their plans going forward.
Rodgers is thought to be a driving force behind the late pursuit, having previously got the best out of Iheanacho during their time together in the Premier League. The forward scored some memorable goals under the Northern Irishman and has retained a strong relationship with him since. He actually scored against Rodgers when City faced Celtic in the Champions League.

Iheanacho had previously been linked with a loan move to Celtic in January while still at Leicester, and now the Hoops are working frantically to get this deal over the line with just over thirty minutes of the window remaining.
It’s a race against time, but should they pull it off, it would be a much-needed boost to an attack that’s looked toothless at times this season. There’s no word yet on whether the move is a permanent bid or a loan.
