Nedim Bajrami opened the scoring at the end of the first half before goals from Greg Taylor and Daizen Maeda had the Hoops ahead by the hour mark.

Mohamed Diomande then hit back for Philippe Clement’s men, and although Nicolas Kuhn looked to have won it in the dying embers, Danilo popped up with a late leveller to take the game to extra time.

After the sides couldn’t be separated after 120 minutes, a penalty shootout ensued. Adam Idah, Arne Engels, Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, and Daizen Maeda all scored for the Celts, with Kasper Schmeichel’s save to deny Ridvan Yilmaz proving pivotal.

The great Dane won his maiden piece of silverware in green and white this afternoon and took to Instagram from the Celtic dressing room post-match, posing with the league cup as he wrote, ‘This is what this club is all about’:

Schmeichel and the green and white half of Glasgow will party deep into this evening, with Christmas having come early.

For everyone involved, today was physically and emotionally toiling. It will take a few days to recover from.
