Kasper Schmeichel took to Instagram on Thursday morning to reflect on Celtic’s 5-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League, with a particular focus on the unforgettable atmosphere at Celtic Park.

The Danish goalkeeper, who made his European debut for the Hoops, couldn’t hide his excitement about finally experiencing a Champions League night in Glasgow.

In his post, Schmeichel wrote: “Waited nearly 8 years to hear that anthem again! What an incredible atmosphere, unlike anything I’ve ever heard in my life! The perfect start to our @championsleague campaign.” For someone with his wealth of experience in football, having played at the highest levels and massive arenas, this was high praise for Celtic fans.

It’s been a tough decade for Celtic in Europe, even with the famously passionate home support. Results haven’t always gone the Hoops’ way at Parkhead, where they once regularly toppled giants.
