Kasper Schmeichel Contract Update

Kasper Schmeichel has revealed he will sit down with Celtic shortly to discuss his future, with a decision expected early next year.

The experienced Danish goalkeeper has a 12-month extension option in his current deal, and many believe he will remain at Parkhead for another season.

Despite the upcoming talks, Schmeichel is focused on Celtic’s busy schedule and the challenges ahead. “It’s something we’ll sit down and talk about at some point in the new year,” he told SunSport. “For now, I’m not thinking that far ahead. My focus is on the things that are happening here and now.”

Thriving at a Big Club like Celtic

Schmeichel joined Celtic last summer and has already made a significant impact, helping the club secure the League Cup in dramatic fashion.

The 3-3 final against Rangers went to penalties, and the veteran keeper played a pivotal role, making a crucial save that secured the trophy for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Reflecting on the intensity of life at Celtic, Schmeichel said, “There’s always something big happening at a big club like Celtic. We have already won a cup final, we lead the league with great and entertaining football, and an incredibly solid defence, which I am especially happy about.”

The goalkeeper also spoke of how Celtic feels like the perfect fit for him both on and off the pitch. “Signing here felt like coming home football-wise,” he explained. “But one of the most important things for me is also to feel the approach to sport and football – to feel the mentality when it comes to how important it is to win.”

Celtic’s European Progress

Celtic’s Champions League campaign has also been a source of pride for Schmeichel, with the team in a strong position to advance after suffering just one defeat in six matches. “We are in a good position in the Champions League,” he said. “It would be a great achievement to advance.”

While no final decision has been made, the consensus within the club is that Schmeichel is likely to extend his stay. His leadership, both on and off the pitch, has been vital for Celtic’s success this season.

For now, Schmeichel remains focused on the immediate challenges, determined to build on what has already been an impressive campaign for the Hoops.
