Karamoko Dembele Set for Cup Start?

CELTIC FANS got a taste of what a young Karamoko Dembele can do in the final game of last season against Hearts. The 16-year-old put in a top second half performance after coming on for an injured Oli Burke.

Karamoko only turned 16 in February and has already made his top-flight debut and trains with the first team regularly. With the new season underway, we’ve not seen the youngster in action yet and the Celtic manager has rightfully pulled back on pushing the player too much. Mikey Johnston was once played in the final game of the season under Brendan Rodgers two seasons ago and it’s only in the last six months he’s got a proper first team push.

It’s all about balancing experience, expectation and helping the bhoy develop as well as possible over the coming season.

With that in mind, the first time we’re likely to see Karamoko Dembele kick a ball for Celtic will be in Tuesday night’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup game between the reserve side and Queens Park. The squad hasn’t been announced yet but the youngster is likely to play some part. The only way he wouldn’t be in contention is if Neil Lennon wants him in the travelling squad to Romania.

A young Celtic side will play at The Penny Cars Stadium, Airdrie, (KO: 7.45pm).

Other players likely to see action are Armstrong Oko-Flex and Barry Coffey who is just off his international break with Ireland. There could be debuts for some of the new younger Celts who have signed over the past month.

The price of admission is a bit much but if you want to see the bhoys of the future it will cost £12 per adult and £6 for kids.
