‘Just Not Working’ – Charlie Mulgrew Slams Celtic’s Blunt Attack

Former Celtic defender Charlie Mulgrew has had his say following the 0-0 draw with Kairat Almaty, offering a frank view on the team’s current form.

Mulgrew didn’t hold back when assessing the areas where he feels the side are coming up short.

The result has sparked plenty of debate among supporters and pundits, with Celtic struggling to find rhythm and goals in recent weeks. Mulgrew believes the signs have been there for some time, pointing back to the opening day of the Premiership campaign.

He raised questions about the team’s cutting edge in attack and the overall depth of the squad, with concerns that key areas still haven’t been properly addressed. For Mulgrew, the answer lies in improving competition and lifting standards across the pitch.

The former Celtic man believes the time to act is now, with the transfer window still open and the season’s biggest games fast approaching.

He said: (Go Radio Football Show), “I think it’s clear as day for anybody to see. First game of St Mirren, you could see it.

“We got the goal, obviously won the game, but that just covered a few cracks. You can see there’s a lack of creativity in the final third. Idah doesn’t look like he’s going to score.

“It’s just not working. They need to get players in so people are competing for positions. A bit of freshness in the building gives other players a lift.

“Celtic need those players in the forward line and I’m sure Brendan Rodgers will be pushing to get that.”

Mulgrew’s views match what many Celtic fans have been saying lately. Some results have covered up the problems, but the lack of spark and depth in attack is still a big issue.

He thinks the forward line is too easy to read and under real pressure, especially with Idah yet to score. Without new signings to push those already playing, the risk is that the team keeps struggling to find form.

For Mulgrew, bringing in new players isn’t just about adding goals. It’s also about lifting the level of everyone in the squad. When players know their spot is under threat, it can push them to give more.

There’s still time left in the transfer window to fix it, but that won’t last long. With big games on the horizon, Celtic need to move quickly.
