‘Just Deal With It’ – Hartson Not Having Celtic Cup Final Grievance

There has been a wealth of controversy surrounding the recent change to this year’s Scottish Cup final between Celtic and Inverness.

Usually, the Scottish Cup final would take place at 3pm on a Saturday although due to the FA Cup being at that time and day, the SFA have changed the kick off time to 5.30pm.

This has caused a plethora of controversy with Celtic and Inverness both making statements.

Despite this, the start time will remain the same.

As alluded to, both sets of fans and clubs are not the happiest however John Hartson believes they should not complain and ‘deal with it’.

The ex-Celtic hero said on Go Radio:

“I understand with the travel situation, tradition, but at the end of the day you are in the cup final, just deal with it. It’s like ‘alright, it’s not 3:00pm, it’s 5:30pm,’ but you have got to the final.

“Go and win it and is whoever wins it, is everyone going to say ‘oh, we played at 5:30pm,?’ The big thing here is the cup final and winning the cup.

“Because it has changed a couple of hours, yeah it’s tradition and I get that. But I just think everyone is making a big thing out of this and it’s a bit over the top.”

This is quite a frank and brutal view from Hartson but some of the points he makes are valid.

It is a blow and a step away from tradition to have the final at 5.30pm but when the full time whistle blows, no one will be talking about the controversy of the kick off time.
