On Sunday, Guardian journalist Ewan Murray criticised Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou for praising his players after their 5-1 victory over St Mirren. Despite coming from a goal behind, Celtic won the game, and Postecoglou was effusive in his praise for his team.
However, Murray took issue with this, arguing that the club’s financial resources dwarf those of St Mirren, and therefore, Postecoglou shouldn’t be praising his players.
Murray’s tweet drew criticism, with many arguing that it was absurd to criticise a football manager for praising his team. Furthermore, Murray has a history of being negative towards Celtic, and many believe that his comments were unwarranted.

Celtic is a well-run club with a large fan base, and they live within their budget. St Mirren is also a well-run club that operates within its means.
Murray’s tweet was widely seen as misguided and unfair. The Celtic manager has every right to praise his players after a victory, and it is unfair to criticise him for doing so.
