Jota has delivered an update on his injury recovery, offering supporters a glimpse into how he’s handling the long road back from a serious knee issue.
The Portuguese winger, 26, was sidelined during Celtic’s title-clinching 5-0 win over Dundee United — a bittersweet moment for the winger who celebrated his first league title back at Celtic, but had to do so in crutches. Jota is not expetced back in full training until at least February 2026.
Speaking from the Hoops’ pre-season base in Portugal, Jota shared how he’s managing both the physical rehab and the mental battle that comes with long-term recovery.
“Feeling really well. Believing the process, trusting the process.” He told Celtic TV. It’s a long one, but I’m happy with the development.”
The winger also addressed the psychological side of being out for the foreseeable future — and showed maturity beyond his years.
“There’s no point in letting myself go mentally… I’m curious and open-minded about the process,” he added.

“My life at Celtic has been full of emotions – from the beginning, then leaving, then coming back… and now the injury. It’s kind of like – well, it’s the life of Celtic, isn’t it? There’s never a straight line. It’s always up and down.
“But I’d rather live that way than have nothing happen – just a constant line.”
Jota’s presence with the squad in Portugal is a boost for Brendan Rodgers, who has always spoken highly of the winger’s character and professionalism. Though he remains a long way off returning to full training, his positive attitude is infectious.
While Jota focuses on his recovery, Celtic’s lack of depth on the flanks has become a growing concern — and the situation is about to get worse. Nicolas Kuhn is closing in on a £17m switch to Serie A side Como, and the club have yet to bring in any new wide players this summer. Nygren can play there, but CeltsAreHere understands Rodgers sees him more as part of a midfield three.
The urgency to strengthen in the final third is building fast. Rodgers will be keen to avoid starting the campaign underpowered in key attacking areas. But for now, fans will take comfort in the fact that Jota is tackling his recovery head-on — and doing everything in his power to return in top condition.
