Jose Mourinho Tipped to Replace Brendan Rodgers

Fenerbahçe boss José Mourinho has been tipped to replace Brendan Rodgers when the Irishman decides to leave Celtic. Rodgers recently confirmed that he will stay beyond the summer until the end of next season, with a number of supporters hopeful that Rodgers will sign a contract extension.

However, Alan Brazil has suggested that if Rodgers were to replace Ange Postecoglou next season at Tottenham, Celtic’s potential Rodgers replacement is staring them right in the face.

Mourinho was undoubtedly a world-class manager in the past, winning two Champions Leagues and countless European League titles. He recently traveled to Ibrox, defeating Rangers 3-1 in normal time.

With the former Chelsea boss reportedly set to leave the Turkish side at the end of the season due to sitting five points behind Galatasaray in the league title race, he was tasked with winning the title. However, that looks unlikely, leading to Mourinho being linked with a host of clubs across Europe.

Brazil said: (talkSPORT), “Does he (Brendan Rodgers) think, ‘get out when the time is right’. I think if a cracking job comes up. Would you imagine if Tottenham come in? Would that be too much for Brendan to say, ‘no’. He has done it before. Would he do that?

“What if Brendan left and Jose went in at Celtic. Of course, in Seville (UEFA Cup final), he has seen 120,00 Celtic fans there, he knows how big the club is. What a game that was, by the way.”

Mourinho famously stopped Celtic winning the UEFA Cup in 2003, something that hasn’t been forgotten in a hurry due to the Hoops’ fairytale European run that season, with Henrik Larsson doing his best to send the final to extra time with a brace.

Seeing Mourinho manage Celtic would be somewhat of a dream for most Celtic fans, with the only question being how he would get on, as in recent years he has failed to keep up his unbelievable standards he set himself early in his managerial career. But a move to the Hoops could help reignite a career on the downward trajectory, just like it did for Rodgers in his first spell.

However, for the time being, Celtic have Rodgers in charge, and he’s even confirmed himself that he will be at the club next season unless he is sacked. Mourinho replacing Rodgers when the Irishman does decide to leave Celtic one day certainly sounds like an interesting idea; however, whether it would be successful is certainly up for debate.
