Celtic look set to bring in Jonjoe Kenny from Everton to play right back for the rest of the season.
– Celtic set to sign Jonjoe Kenny
Bhoys Analytic’s has taken a look at the defender’s data from his 19/20 Bundesliga season with Schalke and compared it to our right backs this season.
Schalke were a mess the season he was there and their struggles have continued this season.
Kenny has strong crossing data but wasn’t able to provide many assists. Hardly surprising as Schalke were poor finishing 12th. This would increase at Celtic I’d suspect.
He performed similarly defensively and aerially at Schalke when compared to Celtic defenders. This is good as this data comes from playing better teams most weeks. His stats should likely increase against poorer opposition.
Jonjoe Kenny provided a good number of forward passes for a team flirting with relegation. His passing accuracy is similar to Celtic full backs despite being under more pressure from more competitive opposition.
From this, I feel he will defend more like Taylor holding shape and trying to reduce risk of balls in behind. He is a high energy player with pace, who is comfortable with the ball at his feet.
Final Thoughts
Kenny fills a gap at right back which is needed after the prompt departure of Jeremie Frimpong. Kristoffer Ajer back in the centre of defence, hopefully pushing Duffy out of the team will be very welcome.
We will likely only have him for the 6 months due to the £10 million fee Everton put on the player’s head in the summer. Although there will only be 12 months left on Kenny’s contract come the end of his Celtic loan, so you never know.
Verdict: Short Term Fix
