Celtic striker Johnny Kenny has earned an international call-up after being drafted into the Republic of Ireland squad to replace the injured Troy Parrott.
Kenny has progressed steadily through Ireland’s underage system and now makes the step up to the senior setup for the first time. His inclusion comes after Parrott, who has been in strong form for AZ Alkmaar, was forced to withdraw from the squad due to injury.
The Celtic forward, currently working to establish himself at club level, will join his new international teammates today for the opening training session at the FAI base in Abbotstown.
Ireland’s campaign begins with a demanding fixture against a Hungary side that impressed at Euro 2024, and Kenny’s late inclusion provides another attacking option forHeimir Hallgrímsson as he looks to start the qualifying campaign positively.

For the young striker, it represents a major milestone in his career, moving from underage representation to the chance of a senior debut on the international stage.
The coming days will be crucial as he adapts to the setup and looks to stake his claim for a place in Saturday’s matchday squad.
