Johnny Hayes decided against taking a role at Aberdeen last week after he confirmed his retirement and is instead set to join Celtic’s coaching staff.

The Daily Record reports that Hayes will take on the role of assistant manager for Celtic’s B team, working under Stephen McManus, who continues as the team’s head coach.
This appointment comes as part of a broader reorganisation within Celtic’s youth coaching hierarchy, which sees Adam Asghar appointed as the new manager for the Under-18 team. Asghar, 29, joins from Southampton’s Under-21 squad where he served as the head coach. His coaching credentials include stints at Sunderland, Motherwell, and Dundee United’s first-team.
The reshuffle follows Darren O’Dea’s transition to the role of Professional Player Pathway Manager, as Celtic aims to strengthen their focus on developing young talent.
These moves highlight Celtic’s commitment to nurturing future generations and maintaining a robust pipeline of skilled players for the senior team, addressing fans’ concerns and complaints about the lack of players rising through the ranks in recent years.
