CELTIC assistant manager John Kennedy has waxed lyrical about Celtic captain Callum McGregor.

He highlighted the immense growth and development of McGregor from his youth days, where the pair briefly worked together, to being an influential leader in the first team.

John Kennedy has been with the midfielder for most of his journey at the Hoops and was tasked with keeping an eye on him while he was at Notts County on loan. This is where he showed that he had the potential to have a future at Celtic, especially during the first six months.

A change of managers the following summer saw Callum McGregor given a chance in pre-season, and the early European qualifiers, where he also scored. It’s fair to say that he took his chance with both hands.

After Harry Kewell appeared on the Official Celtic podcast last week, Celtic assistant manager John Kennedy was the next to be interviewed. When talking about Callum McGregor, he said:

“Callum was one I think he was towards the end of the youth side as I kind of took over them, the under 18s-19s at the time.

“He was a very special player. He was one who was very mature for his age, very humble, very quiet guy but whether he trained or played it was always the same level of performance in terms of his attitude and application was always 100%.

“He would take everything on board and was very driven to be successful.”
