John Kennedy Hails ‘Good News’ For Celtic

When John Kennedy was appointed interim boss after the departure of Neil Lennon there really wasn’t much to play for. However, last weeks Scottish Cup announcement may have changed that.

As quoted by Herald Scotland, Kennedy has insisted that this is now the aim for his Hoops squad as they look to emulate what they have done the last four years in a row by lifting the Scottish Cup trophy for another consecutive year.

“It’s good news for us, the competition coming back in. Obviously, we’re the holders and we’ve had great success in this competition.

“It gives us something else to focus on and go for, in terms of silverware, hopefully, to finish the season off on a high. It gives us an extra incentive now, something to really attack.”

He continued saying, “We just have to concentrate on ourselves, look at our own performances and create some consistency. But when you bring another competition into it, there’s a bit of silverware to go and attack.

“And the Scottish Cup is ours at the moment. It’s something we want to keep hold of. So that’s an extra incentive for the last part of the season. It’s pleasing news for everybody.”

Over the last few years, the club has had incredible success picking up trophies, most recently picking up four consecutive trebles with the Scottish Cup victory in December.

Going through this season trophyless would be the first time that has happened since the 2009/10 season so with the news that the Scottish Cup will be played to the finish this campaign it comes as a bit of an added incentive.

The players should be looking to put in their all to win this season after an extremely poor season for supporters in particular not being able to be in the grounds.

It most certainly wouldn’t make up for losing the 10, but it would help by adding another trophy to the cabinet.
