John Hartson believes Celtic could do a lot worse than signing former Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony but as the BT Sports pundit got excited he quickly checked himself to the reality of such a deal.
“Bony is earning £80,000-a-week on a two-year contract, Celtic can’t stump up £3million to sign John McGinn. Swansea want him off the books. He would be a good signing, but there would be issues with his wages.”Hartson told bt sports.
Bony is on the books at Swansea but has only played four times for the Championship club this season.
When Hartson talks about his wages, it’s not just Celtic who can’t afford him, but it appears Swansea don’t want to continue to pay the striker either.
The 30-year-old’s contract runs out at the end of this season, and he’s free to talk to any club in January.
However, with his wages so high, it seems like the player will either have to lower his demands or wait about at Swansea.
Celtic are not in the market for a 30-year-old striker would have no resale value after a couple of years.
While it’s clear he would be a good signing for the bhoys, the reality is, he’s financially out of our league.
