John Fallon Passes Away

A commanding figure between the sticks, he was part of the side that lifted the 1965 Scottish Cup, the first trophy under Jock Stein, and is fondly remembered for his euphoric celebration after Billy McNeill’s dramatic winner that afternoon at Hampden.

It was a turning point in Celtic’s modern history. From that moment on, the club surged forward, and John was right there through one of its greatest eras. He collected six league titles, five League Cups, and two Scottish Cups during his time at Parkhead, and was also among the travelling party on that famous night in Lisbon, where Celtic conquered Europe.

He may not have featured in the final itself, but as the sole substitute named that day, Fallon was very much part of the story. He stood shoulder to shoulder with the players who brought the European Cup back to Glasgow.

Following his spell at Celtic, John went on to play for Motherwell and Morton before hanging up his gloves in the mid-70s. His passion for the Hoops never lessened. Long after his playing days ended, he remained a regular at matches, continuing to support the club across the decades.

John Fallon wasn’t just part of Celtic history, he helped shape it. A Lisbon Lion in every sense.

Our thoughts are with his family and all those who knew him.
