John Barnes Hits Back at Tainted Title Talk

John Barnes has backed his former club Celtic for the title and dismissed any talk of tainted titles.

North and south of the border there seems to be attempts to diminish Liverpool and Celtic’s standing in the league as both cantered to their respective title.

“I don’t think anything about it is tainted – they will deservedly have won the league because that’s what’s decided.” Barnes told SunSport.

Celtic are currently champions in waiting — the decision to call the season could come at any time but the jumping off point is the UEFA deadline which calls for all leagues to declare their position by May 25.

It’s a waiting game for many Celts. A reminder that however this season ends, the Celtic players and supporters will miss out on the moment together, celebrating the history matching achievement. Something which is lost on many pundits and supporters of rival clubs.

Barnes spent an unsuccessful spell as Celtic boss back in 99. The manager sacked for a dismal run of games. The Englishman was unlucky to lose Henrik Larsson to injury early during that season.
