Goals from Japanese Celtic duo Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda saw the Hoops through into the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup. The Bhoys defeated St. Mirren by two goals to nil on Sunday in what was a professional performance.
The Celts attacked well and defended stoutly. One may argue more goals could have been scored but with eight wins out of a possible nine, fans and pundits alike can have few complaints.
This is the mindset of current Dundee United gaffer Jim Goodwin. The Irishman came through Celtic’s youth academy, spending four years at the club before departing for Stockport on a free transfer in 2002.
He was at The Bhoys’ game on Sunday versus one of his old teams, St. Mirren, as he defended the Scottish champions: “Some of their criticism has been unwarranted”, he said (live on air on Viaplay).
“(They’ve had) very difficult games in a very difficult league.
“Celtic’s temperament has been questioned of late but seven wins out of eight, you can’t question that.”
On paper, Celtic’s recent form has been that of the best in the land. Supporters, however, have rightly questioned some of the performances.
Given the mounting injuries Brendan Rodgers has had to deal with combined with the volume of fixtures over the past few months, however, such a run of form should be admired.
