Jermain Defoe has warned Celtic that it’s only a matter of time before The Rangers take top spot in Scotland.
The veteran striker came into the Scottish game almost 18-months ago with a clear message – ‘Let’s bring that trophy home boss’. In the days, weeks and months since that famous tweet, Jermain Defoe and his Ibrox teammates have not won a thing, although they did get a nice runners up medal in the League Cup.
“I said it when I signed, I believe it’s only a matter of time before it happens. Celtic fans give me a bit of banter about it on social media but I do genuinely believe it’s only a matter of time.” he told footballfancast.
It’s the type of nauseating quotes Celtic supporters have had to read over the past four years. At some point, you would think these guys would learn to keep quiet and do their talking on the field.
Celtic have won three consecutive trebles and were on their way to a fourth when the shut down came into play.
There was panic at Ibrox while the football was still going on and an acceptance they haven’t been good enough – they have, however, found their voice with this shutdown.
Scott Brown is Celtic’s captain and continues to lead by example out on that pitch and the team as a whole got their act together after the December defeat at Celtic Park. You can keep making statements because it seems to motivate Celtic to that next level.
