Jeremie Frimpong Opens Up on Controversial Dubai Trip

Former Celtic fullback Jeremie Frimpong has opened up on the controversial trip to Dubai at the beginning of January.

As quoted by the Glasgow Times, Frimpong who recently completed his move to Germany with Bayern Leverkusen, spoke out on the trip which saw 13 players forced into self-isolation in an interview with The Athletic.

“The training camp was really good, intense.

“The sun was really nice, the hotel food was so nice as well. But I was just focused on training.

“For me and the Celtic guys it was a good training camp, we worked hard, and I was just focused on the football.

“Obviously, when we came back there were a lot of things said, and I realise why people were upset, but you just have to focus on you.

“Everyone was like me, everyone was focused on the team.

“I was the youngest there, and everyone was more experienced than me, so they were all like that.”

There was a lot of talk surrounding the Dubai trip for several weeks before and after it took place.

A lot of people didn’t agree with it, even despite the supposed benefits that Frimpong speaks about due to the on-going global pandemic.

Of course, that was proved to be right and any progress that was gained out in the UAE was almost instantly lost with so many players being forced to isolate.

Ultimately this will go down as one of the worst moments in what has been an extremely poor season for Celtic. Who knows what would have happened at this stage, had the Dubai trip not taken place but we will never know.
