Jeremie Frimpong Makes Celtic Title Claim

Former Celtic defender Jeremie Frimpong has said that he believes the criticism of ex-boss Neil Lennon was over the top at times after a poor season which saw the Northern Irishman face a lot of backlash within the support.

As reported by the Daily Record, Fromping who completed a move to Germany with Bayern Leverkusen in the January window also believes that the Hoops downfall this season which has seen the club all but lose the league title was ‘normal’ after such a successful spell over the last few years.

“I think in football, obviously Celtic in previous years they always win, but there was always going to be a point where they can’t win everything, so there was always going to have to be a time where they have to lose.

“So the criticism Neil Lennon was getting was a bit over the top because, in football, it’s normal.

“I feel like at Celtic, the fans they were so used to winning that when they started going down they didn’t know how to feel about it, but it’s normal to feel like that.”

Of course, the successful run was always going to come to an end and fans can accept that. What they can’t accept though, is the manner in which it was lost this season after what has been a disastrous campaign.

Poor results in the League, in Europe and in the Cup it simply hasn’t been good enough.

We now find ourselves in the position of a monumental rebuild ahead in the summer which will likely see not only a massive overhaul in the playing squad but also in the management staff.

So the effects of this season probably won’t just be felt this year but possibly in a few still to come.
