Jeffrey Schlupp Settles in at Celtic as Odsonne Edouard Reacts to Transfer

Jeffrey Schlupp is now officially part of the Celtic squad, having completed his deadline-day loan move from Crystal Palace.

The Ghana international arrives having previously played for Leicester City—where he won the Premier League in 2016 alongside current Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel—before moving to Selhurst Park.

Schlupp is unlikely to feature in the midweek Premiership clash against Dundee, but fans could get their first glimpse of him at the weekend when Celtic take on Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup.

Former Celtic hero Odsonne Edouard was quick to react to Schlupp’s move, commenting on his Instagram post with a simple message:

“Enjoy bro.”

Speculation from fans had Edouard with a return to Parkhead during the January window, given Celtic’s urgent need for a striker following Kyogo Furuhashi’s departure.

With Jota returning and Kieran Tierney agreeing a pre-contract, the idea of another ex-Hoops star coming back didn’t seem far-fetched. However, a move for Edouard wasn’t possible in January due to FIFA regulations, as he had already played for two clubs this season—Crystal Palace and loan side Leicester City.

He was heavily linked with an MLS move, a league that he could play in, given the different season schedules.

That being said, Palace are expected to move him on permanently in the summer, and given Celtic’s ongoing striker situation, an Edouard return might not be completely off the table. We’ll need to wait and see.
