Jeffrey Schlupp Details Vincent Kompany’s Post-Match Praise

Celtic’s heartbreaking exit from the Champions League against Bayern Munich may have been a tough pill to swallow, but their performance has earned widespread admiration—including from Bayern boss Vincent Kompany.

Jeffrey Schlupp, who put in a monumental shift at left-back, revealed what Kompany told him after the final whistle at the Allianz Arena.

The former Manchester City captain made sure to acknowledge the effort Brendan Rodgers’ men had put in over both legs of the tie.

“Obviously, in the press after the game and stuff, you know, everyone was just obviously congratulating us,” Schlupp said on Celtic TV.

“The players when we were coming off the pitch, their manager was just saying how great we’d done and how proud we should be of ourselves. We gave them a game in both legs. Any other night, it could have been the completely other way around.”

While Celtic’s Champions League journey has come to an end, performances like this one will only strengthen their reputation in European football.

With Kieran Tierney set to return in the summer, the question now is whether Celtic will push to make Schlupp’s deal permanent, given his impressive start to life in Glasgow.

Greg Taylor looks set to leave the Hoops at the end of the season with no contract renewal in sight. If his exit was to transpire, Celtic would re-enter the market for a left-back, and with Schlupp already performing well in Glasgow and available on a free transfer, signing him would make sense.

As we get closer to summer, Celtic’s plan for the upcoming window will become a little clearer, with the aim to keep improving in the Champions League.
