Celtic deadline day loan signing Jeffrey Schlupp has this afternoon arrived in Glasgow after completing a loan move from Crystal Palace until the end of the season yesterday.
Schlupp, who has been signed as cover for Greg Taylor at left-back, can operate as a winger on either flank and in central midfield. He appears to be a good utility option, although at 32, he is certainly in the twilight of his career.

With Alex Valle returning to Barcelona before joining Como on loan, Celtic were a left-back down, and Schlupp solves this. The Ghanaian, who previously played alongside Kasper Schmeichel at Leicester City from 2011 until 2017, has a familiar face in the Celtic dressing room.
Having won the English Premier League alongside Schmeichel in 2016, the pair will look to recreate that success at Celtic in the second half of the season, with the Scottish Cup and Scottish Premiership up for grabs.

Given the success that Aaron Mooy had at Celtic at a similar age to Schlupp, it shows that when older players join the Hoops, if their mentality and work rate are spot on, they can still be successful. Schmeichel is yet another example of this.
With Greg Taylorโs current deal set to expire in the summer and Kieran Tierney already having signed a pre-contract, Schluppโs loan spell is an opportunity to show what he can do. There is a real possibility he could join permanently in the summer, with his Crystal Palace deal set to expire.
However, given the number of left-backs that Taylor has seen off in his five and a half years at Celtic, it looks unlikely that Schlupp will start week in, week out over Taylor. Instead, he will likely be a rotation option, similar to how Alex Valle operated earlier this season.
