The Japan FA have called up Daizen Maeda to the squad for their world cup qualifiers meaning the Japanese star will miss the Hearts, Dundee Utd and The Rangers game.
It also means Celtic have only one fit and available striker for these games and the derby because Kyogo is not considered an option at this point.
Japan technical director Yasuharu Sorimachi revealed why they haven’t called up Kyogo and it matches up with that Ange Postecoglou has been saying:
“We don’t know the details about his injury. But because it’s at the level where we were concerned about whether he’d be able to contribute to the team we decided not to call him up this time.” He told Dan Orlowitz.
Kyogo is not expected back in the next few weeks. Losing the striker is as big a problem for Japan as it is for Celtic.
Had Kyogo been fit, there was a chance Maeda might have been allowed to stay in Glasgow.
It’s bad luck and bad timing for the Hoops.
Giakoumakis needs to take the bull by the horns in the next couple of weeks. The game at Alloa is up first, will the Greek frontman get game time to help him kick on?
