Jamie Vardy to Celtic Rumours Re-emerge

With Jamie Vardy announcing that he will leave Leicester City at the end of the season, the English forward has been linked with a move to join Brendan Rodgers, who he previously worked at the Foxes from 2019 until 2023.

A number of Celtic supporters have taken to social media, tipping the Hoops to sign Vardy on a free transfer in the summer.

At 38, Vardy is nearing his twilight years. However, he has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 31 league games this season, a respectable tally for Leicester, who sit 19th in the table and have already been relegated.

Vardy’s lack of a large number of goals can’t be credited to a decline in his performances. Instead, it would be more about the managerial merry-go-round at the Foxes and the lack of consistency from those around him, with Vardy scoring 18 goals in the Championship last season.

Vardy’s second-best goal-scoring season at Leicester, aside from his Premier League-winning best season, came in 2019/20 under Rodgers, where he scored 23 goals, showing that the pair worked brilliantly together in the past.

The question over Vardy would be his age and effectiveness. However, he clearly has an elite mentality, as shown throughout his career, and shows no signs of slowing down yet.

Celtic do need a proven striker in the summer to push Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah. However, whether the support would be happy with Vardy is up for debate. The hope would be that Celtic splash out on a marquee signing who is in their prime or fast approaching it.

The added pull factor could be Kasper Schmeichel, with who Vardy also worked brilliantly well at Leicester, winning the Premier League and FA Cup. Even Jeffrey Schlupp, who he played alongside, means there are certainly some familiar faces in the dressing room currently who could put in a good word
