James Forrest has opened up about the process behind his new Celtic contract and shared his excitement about continuing his career with the Hoops. The long-serving winger will now remain at the club until the summer of 2026, extending his stay at Paradise well into his 30s.
Speaking to Celtic TV ahead of the team’s midweek match against Aberdeen, Forrest revealed that talks over a new deal had been ongoing since late July, culminating in the announcement last month. The 32-year-old explained:

“Obviously, I signed a year extension. Delighted to be here, delighted to be a part of the club for another year. My agent started talking to the club just after pre-season, and I think it’s worked really well, me and the club over the years, and I’m just delighted to keep working hard here and keep playing a part in the success of the club.”
The winger also reflected on his relationship with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, under whom he enjoyed great success during the manager’s first spell in charge. Forrest remains enthusiastic about working with Rodgers again and highlighted the positive influence the manager has had on both senior and younger players within the squad.
“I really enjoyed his first spell here and then when he came back, I think there was maybe three or four players that had him before. Me and Cal, we told a lot of the younger boys that they’d enjoy working with him, and I think throughout the last season, that became apparent. As I said, I’m delighted to extend my deal and hopefully, he is here as well.”
A one-club man, Forrest has been part of Celtic’s setup since his academy days and has seen the club evolve significantly over the years. While his role has varied—from being a key figure in the starting XI to offering experience and depth off the bench—his contributions remain valued. Last season, Forrest provided crucial contributions in the final stretch, helping the team secure yet another domestic double.
As Celtic prepare for a challenging December fixture list, Forrest’s experience and adaptability will undoubtedly be called upon as the club aims to maintain its stronghold in Scottish football.
