James Forrest Thinking of Goal Record as he Jokes he ‘Needs to get the Finger Out’

Celtic veteran James Forrest is on a mission to end his goal drought as the Hoops prepare for a top-of-the-table clash against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

The 33-year-old winger, who has scored in each of his previous 15 seasons with the club, is yet to find the back of the net this campaign—a streak he’s eager to break.

He’s played quite a few games this season, and despite registering a few assists, he’s yet to find the back of the net himself.

Reflecting on his drought, Forrest revealed he’s now feeling the weight of the milestone after fans and teammates began pointing it out:

“Maybe just recently [I’ve been thinking about the goal drought],” he said to the Herald.

“A few folk have mentioned it but it’s one where obviously as an attacking player you want to be scoring and assisting.

“But I’ve been really enjoying this season, the minutes I’ve got, the games I’ve been involved in. It’s not in my head as a stat, it’s more to help the team as a fellow player.

“Obviously it’s a good start to the season overall, but I need to get my finger out and make sure I score this season!”

Should Forrest score this season, it would mark his 16th consecutive campaign with a goal. His last strike came in May against Kilmarnock, contributing to Celtic’s domestic double last season.

After speculation about his future over the summer, Forrest has embraced his rotational role under Brendan Rodgers, singing a new deal with the Hoops.

Celtic travel to Aberdeen with a chance to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to seven points. Rodgers’ side is in blistering form, coming off a 5-0 thrashing of Ross County, but second-placed Aberdeen represents a significant challenge, despite their shaky form as of late.

Victory at Pittodrie would extend their lead of second-placed Dons to seven points.
